Marathon des Sables, Outdoor Fitness, Oct ’13

The Marathon des Sables is one of the most famous ultra marathons in the world.  Now in it’s 29th year, it has captured the hearts and minds of many an athlete, regardless of ability.  At 250kms long, it’s no walk in the park and competitors must endure some extreme temperatures and some fairly unpleasant blisters.

I’ve now run this event twice, in 2011 (21st and Top Brit) and 2013, where I came 15th (3rd Brit).  Everyone will have a different experience, but the the thing that makes this event unique is the camaraderie you share amongst your tent mates.

Outdoor Fitness magazine commissioned me to write about my tent, No 143.  We were lucky to have an awesome bunch – friends I shall keep for life!

The following article was published in the October issue (no 22) and is not to be copied or reproduced without permission.
