Memories & Experiences

What I’ve been up to

Below, you’ll find a selection of my thoughts, memories and experiences as well as snippets of news. But for my main blog, please go to

Telegraph Men column: Duathlons

Being asked to write a weekly column for Telegraph Men about my favourite topic in the world, adventure sports, was a really honour.  So far I've written 3 articles, my latest being about duathlons. I was supposed to be doing the London Duathlon a couple of weekends back, but because of a slight case of Achilles tendonitis, I had to pull out.  Instead, I went to watch the PruHealth World Triathlon Grand Final, where my fellow Telegraph Men columnist, Jonny Brownlee came a very close 2nd...

[tagline_box backgroundcolor="" shadow="no" border="1px" bordercolor="" highlightposition="right" link="" linktarget="" button="2013 Results" title="A 14 mile, 2 lap obstacle course around Germany's Nurburgring" description="With dozens of gnarly obstacles to tackle, this is a race to the finish - you just need to beat the other 14,000 people in your way. Tobias' finish position: 24th in 2hrs:10"][/tagline_box] They say ignorance is bliss, a mantra I decided to adopt in preparation for the Fisherman's Friend StrongMan Run that I completed last May 2013 in Germany.   Invited by Fisherman's Friend UK, I...

Reel Rock 8 Film Tour 2-23 October 2013 [youtube id="8yns694E5Qg" width="600" height="350"] "Reel Rock founders Josh Lowell and Peter Mortimer have been producing and directing climbing and adventure films for over a decade, with devoted audiences around the world. Their work has won them dozens of awards at international film festivals. After organizing small tours for their individual film releases, Lowell and Mortimer realized the huge demand for exciting live events in the outdoors community and combined forces to create The Reel Rock Film Tour in 2006. In 2011...

Cycle shoes not fitting properly? Try an orthopaedic in-Sole

In the past, I've not had the best of luck with insoles.  Being somewhat flat footed, I've often needed insoles to provide that extra support.  Although I am now fortunate enough to be supported by the excellent Profeet on the Fulham Road in London, with only one pair of orthotics, it's a bit of a pain in the you know where to swap insoles from one shoe to another. So, when I started to notice that my cycle shoes were getting a little lose.  Indeed, it's...

Trigger Point Therapy at Balance Physio

'How come you're never injured?' is a question I'm often asked.  Considering the nature of my how I earn a crust, tackling the worlds toughest races, I'm amazed that I've not had any serious injuries. Don't get me wrong - it's not that I don't get injured. I get niggles just like everyone else.  But I'm lucky that considering the facts, I've not come a cropper. There are some things about my body and training that I'm very aware of. For instance, I'm certainly not flexible.  I can count...

Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc – just around the corner

[alert type="notice"]Go to to follow my progress during the race.  Search for runner number 4797 or Mews[/alert] I've been thinking about doing the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB) since I first heard about it 5 years ago, at the genesis of my ultra running career.  It's one of those races that sits firmly at the top of the bucket list, with a 'one day' written in parenthesis.  It's also one of those races that you don't/shouldn't want to attempt unless you've done a serious...

Rough Rider Promo – a film you must watch

If you followed the Tour de France this year, then you’ll know that Chris Froome and his Team Sky companions were barraged with questions of doping.  Because this time last year, Lance Armstrong still had 7 Tour de France titles to his name.  But thanks to the work by Paul Kimmage, who managed to expose Lance’s duplicity, cycling has become a cleaner sport.  This promo video ‘Rough Rider’ left me sitting on the edge of my seat, eager to learn more. It’s really good.
